Our Research keeps our minds sharp
and adds value to our products
Internet of Things allows computers to sense the environment and understand the context in which they operate. This helps enormously in automating many processes as well as in applying artificial intelligence and machine learning on the data obtained from IoT. We are looking at applying IoT for well-being of people as well as to asset management.
IoT is the internet working of physical devices, vehicles, buildings, and other items – embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators, and network connectivity that enable these objects to collect and exchange data
Recently deep learning approaches made a breakthrough in the field of machine learning, drastically improving the performance of speech recognition, object recognition in images, computer vision, etc. to the level that they can be widely applied by industry. We have been working with a local living lab to develop an IoT and data platform for a combined tele-medicine and independent living (elderly care) approach to sustain and extending independent living of chronically ill people at their homes.
Machine learning is an application of artificial intelligence (AI) that provides systems the ability to automatically learn and improve from experience without being explicitly programmed
Recent advances in IT technologies (increased speed of computation, cheaper and larger data storage, increasing applications of sensors and digitization) resulted in creation of huge data sets. Only during the last two years we as a society created more data than in all previous years. This data can be used by machine learning to solve many difficult problems which we couldn’t solve before. Recently we have worked with one of our partners to advance science in the area of big data veracity applied to well-being of pupils in schools as well as to healthcare smart services.
The goal of big data management is to ensure a high level of data quality and accessibility for business intelligence and big data analytics applications.
In this project, a prototype of Smart Asset Manager is developed and validated, consisting of tags, iBeacons, a mobile applications and management software. The Smart Asset Manager is based on smart asset management techniques. It helps to locate and manage (expensive) devices and instruments in a complex environment such as hospitals, industry, airports and laboratories.
